The Imitation Game

The Imitation Game

When I first heard that we are going to watch this movie instead of Kingsman, I was like goddd whyyy.  Usually, when a new movie came out, I always go and watch the trailer. But this movie, seriously? I didn’t even know that there’s a movie named The Imitation Game. My first impression based on the tittle was, ohh this movie must be something like The Maze Runner kind of movie. Or Hunger Game? Haha. Okay lah, if Miss Shar said so, go on je la. Although, I thought it’s going to be so boring.
So, when I reached at the cinema, we were given the ticket, but haha, we had to sit randomly, I mean the tickets were spread randomly. So, I was in the same row with the seniors. I bought popcorn even though I had lunch already. Hey, popcorn is a must okay! When we entered the cinema, we conquered most of the seats there. Cool right. :D
And so the movie began. You know what?  I don’t know which century was that and I hate to watch those movies that were set in the century before 21th. Hahaha. I don’t like history. So I was thinking, what kind of game they are going to play during that time. What I had in my mind was, it cant be something like the maze runner or hunger game. So what kind of game are they going to play?
And then the main actor came in. Oh this guy from star trek. Khan. I dint even know his real name. He played a role named Alan Turing. To be frank, I also didn’t know that this movie is based on the true story. Meaning that, I didn’t know who is Alan Turing! I was actually tried to focus really hard on the movie since I have to do an essay about this movie.  The starting was actually quite nice. I like it when Alan said something sarcastic with his serious face. After the jokes they showed, I started to enjoy already. I think.  So from the starting, I got know that Turing was a professor of a well-know university which I forget where it was. But there is some part of the starting that I still don’t know why is happened. The part at where Turing’s house was robbed and why did the police officer looking for his army file? Was him an army? No right? And then when Alan was in the room for his first meeting with his colleagues, there’s an Enigma machine on the table, Alan, the way he looked at the machine, and saying that it’s beautiful, I actually can feel his passion towards machine and technology. Like the way he appreciated it so much. The task given was to break all the codes. So that’s the game. But why was it called The Imitation Game? I don’t understand.

Alan Turing had passion so much on technology and mathematics. It was shown when he’s doing his work, like he is so hardworking. But the thing is, he is a selfish man who didn’t want to cooperate with others. In this world, we cant live alone. We need help from others if we want to succeed. It is shown in the movie, only after his relationship with his colleagues became better, he succeed. It was a sad thing to know that he was a homosexual. He could have made a perfect couple with Joan. I mean like, they really care about each other. To me, they were in love, but in a different way. Even though that Alan was a gay, but I think he might have feelings for Joan. It was shown on how he looked at Joan for the first time, although he wanted Joan to break the code at the same time. Joan was the first woman who actually managed to pass the exam that Turing proposed. Even though, all the guys underestimated her. But who cares.

There are a lot of other issues that can be touched in this movie. And a lot of things that we can take as moral values too. For example, we have to protect our friends who are in needs. We must know that we cant live alone in this world. We always need a companion. We also need to know that to achieve success we must not give and put our efforts a lot on our work. I’m a straight movie kind of person. But after watch this deep movie, it makes me ponder even more.  The imitation Game is definitely a worth watching movie. I only knew who invented the computer from this movie. And I know that Alan Turing was a hero and save many lives without even holding the gun. I had different kind of feelings when I watched it. I laughed so hard at the jokes. I get excited. My heart beats faster when he managed to do something. I cried of the sad scenes. And it makes me watch this movie for the second time and never get bored.

beauty vs usability

Beauty vs. Usability

Does beauty on design matters? Which one people prefer most; beauty or the usability? Well, it really depends on that particular person. But to me, people tend to be attracted to the object which has beauty first, and then only they will look at the function and so on. In my case, I tend to love iPhone more than Samsung phone. Why? Because to me iPhone appearance is a lot better than Samsung. I think most people will agree with what I said. When I was at a camera shop, I was to choose which camera should I buy. There got two cameras that I had to choose. The functions are same. It’s two different brands of cameras. Well of course I chose which one looks better. Why people choose beauty first than usability? Attractive thing works better. Whenever I have to choose two different things, which one looks nice, and the other one looks not so nice but it has a good function, I will always have that guilty feeling of not choosing the nice one over the unattractive one. In my case, beauty is definitely important because it makes thing to work a lot easier. According to Donald A. Norman in his article Attractive Things Work Better,  “Noam Tractinsky, an Israeli scientist, was puzzled. Attractive things certainly should be preferred over ugly ones, but why would they work better? Yet two Japanese researchers, Masaaki Kurosu and Kaori Kashimura1, claimed just that. They developed two forms of automated teller machines, the ATM machines that allow us to get money and do simple banking tasks any time of the day or night. Both forms were identical in function, the number of buttons, and how they worked, but one had the buttons and screens arranged attractively, the other unattractively. Surprise! The Japanese found that the attractive ones were easier to use.”  Some think that people tend to love beautiful things because it’s just human nature. Some may not be agreed with what I said, some may be agreed. Design is a very subjective matter. Different people different opinions. I have given my opinion.

#perakventure

So, here is my update about the trip I went during the off campus week. You guys can also search #perakventure on instagram for the pics :)

Day 1:

For the first day, I had to wake up so early in the morning cuz I didn't finished pack my stuffs. And then, I was rushing to school cuz i was told to be there by 7.30am. But, as usually the bus was not there on time. So, we were all sitting in front of the reception door with sleepy face.

Basically, Gopeng Heritage House was the first place we came to visit.

These are some of the old stuffs that I captured.

This is the small town of Gopeng. I captured this scenery from the third floor of the Heritage House.

Our next stop was the Labu Sayong Kraf Tanjung Bidara. Mr Shamshudin and his family run a family owned business.

Here, we were taught how to shape and decorate the clay. It was a fun workshop.
Every student was given a halfway done pot and we have to design the pot using our own style. It was hard, but practice makes perfect right. :D

Finally, we checked in to our hotel. It was a tiring day. But we managed to get up and went for dinner at the hawker stall nearby. it's 10 mins away from our hotel.
And so our first day ended.
